“Open source” Chinese modernization - In the Tuesday newsletter I highlighted a long Xinhua commentary - “Consolidating the Foundation and Making All-out Efforts to Promote the Steady and Long-term Progress of Chinese Modernization — Written on the Occasion of the Launch and Implementation of the Outline of the ‘15th Five-Year Plan’ 夯实基础全面发力,推进中国式现代化行稳致远——写在’十五五’规划纲要启动实施之际” - that said “Chinese modernization is an open modernization, a win-win modernization, and an “open-source” civilizational practice.” The March 18th People’s Daily has a long article on page 17 by Zheng Yongnian titled “The Global Significance of Chinese Modernization Crucially Lies in Being ‘Open Source’ 中国式现代化的世界意义关键在于’开源’”, so I guess they are really going to run with the catchy “open source” as part of the intensifying campaign to convince the rest of the world that Chinese modernization will benefit everyone, and is better than Western modernization. I have posted a full translation of Zheng’s article here.
