Plain English. What you can do, what you can't, and how we keep this thing honest.

The Short Version

If you read nothing else, read this.

  • Real Press is a content authenticity tool — scores are statistical assessments, not legal verdicts
  • We don't own the content we analyze, but we do store it after analysis
  • You can dispute any score you believe is inaccurate, for free, on any content page
  • Our scores are never influenced by commercial partnerships, sponsorships, or who pays us
  • We will not modify a score in exchange for payment — not for any amount, from anyone
  • We will not remove or change a score because of a legal threat, we will only do this for a binding court order. If that happens it will be disclosed on the transparency report for that entry.
  • Don't use our scores to harass people or make employment, publishing, legal, or other decisions about creators, products, or brands

1. What Real Press Is

What this section covers: what we build and how it works at a high level.

Real Press is a search engine that helps people find authentic, human-generated content online. We analyze publicly available articles, posts, and media using multiple independent AI detection providers and display scores on a Human-to-AI spectrum. Our goal is to make content authenticity visible — not to act as an authority on it.

By using Real Press — including the website, browser extension, or Verification API — you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

2. Score Disclaimer

What this section covers: what AI detection scores mean, what they don't mean, and the limits of using them to make decisions.

This is the most important section in these terms. Please read it carefully.

AI detection scores on Real Press are automated statistical assessments produced by aggregating signals from multiple independent detection providers. They are probabilistic estimates, not legal determinations, editorial judgments, or definitive conclusions about who authored any piece of content.

Specifically:

  • Scores reflect the current state of detection models and may change as methodology improves. A score from six months ago may differ from a score generated today on the same content.
  • Real Press does not assert that any specific person or entity authored, or did not author, any piece of content.
  • Detection models can produce false positives and false negatives. No AI detection system achieves perfect accuracy.
  • Scores should be interpreted as one data point among many — not as ground truth about a document or its creator.

Users must not use Real Press scores as the sole basis for employment decisions, publishing decisions, contractual decisions, legal proceedings, or any other high-stakes determination about content creators. If you are making a consequential decision about a person based on content authenticity, consult qualified experts and rely on multiple independent sources of evidence.

3. Acceptable Use

What this section covers: what you can do with Real Press, and the specific things we won't allow because they would cause harm.

Real Press is a transparency tool. Use it that way. The following are prohibited:

  • Targeted harassment campaigns. Do not bulk-score a single author's body of work with the intent to build a case for reputational harm or harassment.
  • Building derivative databases. Do not use automated scraping, the API, or the browser extension to systematically collect Real Press scores and redistribute or resell them without written permission.
  • Misrepresenting scores. Do not describe Real Press scores as official certifications, legal determinations, editorial endorsements, or authoritative findings. Always represent them as probabilistic assessments.
  • Individual surveillance. Do not use any Real Press product to monitor the writing output of specific individuals without their knowledge or consent.
  • Circumventing access controls. Do not attempt to bypass rate limits, quota enforcement, API authentication, or any other access control mechanism.
  • Automated abuse. Do not send artificial traffic or use bots to inflate submission counts, manipulate scores, or degrade service quality for others.

Real Press reserves the right to suspend or permanently revoke access — including API keys and accounts — for violations of this acceptable use policy, without prior notice.

4. Dispute and Correction

What this section covers: how content creators can challenge a score they believe is wrong, and what happens when they do.

We know detection models make mistakes. We take that seriously, and we've built a process for handling it.

  • Content creators can flag a score they believe is inaccurate using the flag button present on every content page.
  • Real Press reviews flagged scores and may re-analyze the content using updated methodology or additional providers.
  • When a corrected score replaces the original, the correction is noted in the content's score history.
  • This process is entirely free and available to all users — no account or payment required to submit a flag.
  • We do not guarantee that all flags will result in a score change — only that each flag receives genuine review.

5. Intellectual Property

What this section covers: who owns what — specifically, the content we analyze versus the analysis itself.

Real Press does not claim ownership of any content it analyzes. Articles, posts, images, and other media belong to their respective creators and publishers. However, Real Press does store analyzed content (text, metadata, and associated media URLs) in order to display search results, generate score histories, and improve detection methodology.

  • Analysis results — scores, breakdowns, provider signals, explanations, and derived metadata — are Real Press intellectual property.
  • Content you submit (URLs, pasted text, screenshots) remains your own. Submitting content to Real Press does not transfer any ownership rights to us, but we retain a copy for the purposes described above.
  • Real Press may use anonymized, aggregated data (e.g., score distributions, detection model performance statistics) to improve its methodology. This data cannot be traced back to individual users or specific content submissions.
  • The Real Press name, the “Regi” mascot, the logo, and associated brand assets are trademarks of Real Press. Do not use them without written permission.

6. API Terms

What this section covers: rules specific to using the Real Press Verification API, including rate limits, redistribution, and key ownership.

  • API access is subject to rate limits and monthly quotas based on your subscription tier. Quotas reset at the start of each billing period.
  • API responses may not be redistributed or resold as a data product or incorporated into a competing service without prior written permission from Real Press.
  • Real Press may modify or deprecate API endpoints with reasonable advance notice (typically 30 days for breaking changes).
  • Free-tier API access carries no uptime guarantee and is subject to throttling during high demand. Paid tiers receive best-effort availability.
  • API keys are personal credentials. Do not share, publish, or transfer your API key to another person or organization.
  • Products, research, or publications that incorporate bulk Real Press API results should credit Real Press as the source of detection data.

7. Billing and Subscriptions

What this section covers: how paid plans work, when you're charged, and how to cancel or get a refund.

  • Paid plans (Pro, Enterprise) renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You authorize this recurring charge when you subscribe.
  • You may cancel anytime from your account settings. Access continues through the end of the current paid period. No partial-month refunds are issued on cancellation.
  • Refunds for recurring charges are handled on a case-by-case basis within 30 days of the charge. Contact support@real.press.
  • Single-use breakdown credits ($1) are non-refundable once purchased and expire after 12 months.
  • Prices may change. Existing subscribers will receive at least 30 days notice before a price increase takes effect. Your current rate is locked through the end of your active subscription period.

8. Limitation of Liability

What this section covers: the legal guardrails on what Real Press is responsible for if something goes wrong.

Real Press is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind — express or implied — including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Detection scores are best-effort outputs from statistical models and may contain errors.

  • Real Press is not liable for any decision — employment, publishing, legal, financial, or otherwise — made on the basis of detection scores.
  • Real Press is not liable for service interruptions, data loss, or degraded performance caused by infrastructure outages, third-party provider failures, or force majeure events.
  • Real Press is not liable for the acts or omissions of third-party services used to power the platform (payment processing, AI detection providers, authentication, hosting).
  • Total liability is capped at the fees you paid to Real Press in the preceding 12 months, or $100 for free-tier users — whichever is greater.

9. Accounts and Data

What this section covers: your responsibilities as an account holder and what happens to your data if your account is terminated.

  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials and API keys secure. Do not share your account with others.
  • One account per person. Shared accounts for individual users are not permitted (organizations with Enterprise plans may request team access separately).
  • Real Press may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or the acceptable use policy. We will attempt to notify you before termination unless the violation is severe or ongoing.
  • On account deletion, personal data (name, email, preferences) is removed in accordance with the Privacy Policy. Anonymized analytics data — scores, usage patterns — may be retained to improve the service.
  • Browser extension data handling (local history, authentication tokens) is described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Editorial Independence

What this section covers: the commitment we make to keeping scores free from commercial influence — and what we'll do if that ever changes.

This one matters to us.

Detection scores on Real Press are determined solely by our algorithms and the consensus of our independent detection providers. No commercial relationship — partnership, sponsorship, advertising deal, or investment — influences how any piece of content is scored.

  • Publishers, platforms, and AI companies receive the same algorithmic treatment as everyone else. Paying us does not improve your score.
  • We will not modify, suppress, or remove a score in exchange for payment. Not for any amount, from any party, under any circumstances. There is no premium tier, back channel, or “score management” service that influences results.
  • We will not change a score because of a legal threat. Cease-and-desist letters, demand letters, and threats of litigation do not cause us to alter scores. Only a binding court order from a judge with jurisdiction compels us to act — and if that happens, we will disclose it in our transparency report.
  • If we ever change this policy — if we ever allow commercial relationships to influence scoring — we will publicly disclose it prominently in our quarterly transparency reports and on the homepage.

We believe this commitment is what makes Real Press worth using. We intend to keep it.

11. Governing Law and Disputes

What this section covers: what law governs these terms and how disputes between you and Real Press get resolved.

These terms are governed by the laws of Washington State, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles.

  • Disputes between you and Real Press are resolved by binding arbitration under the American Arbitration Association (AAA) Commercial Arbitration Rules. Arbitration is faster and less expensive than court for most disputes.
  • Either party may bring claims in small claims court as an alternative to arbitration, if the claim qualifies.
  • Class action waiver: disputes are resolved individually. You and Real Press each waive the right to participate in a class action or class-wide arbitration.

12. Changes to These Terms

What this section covers: how we notify you when these terms change and what counts as your acceptance.

We may update these terms as the product evolves. When we do:

  • Material changes (changes that affect your rights or how your data is used) will be communicated at least 30 days before taking effect, via email or a prominent site notification.
  • Minor updates (clarifications, typos, formatting) may be made without notice.
  • Continued use of Real Press after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
  • The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.

13. Consequential Use Prohibition

What this section covers: specific restrictions on using Real Press scores for decisions that affect people's rights, opportunities, or livelihoods. This section exists to comply with EU AI Act transparency obligations and to prevent harm from misuse of automated assessments.

Real Press scores are automated AI assessments produced by statistical models. They are not suitable as the sole input for any decision that materially affects a natural person. Specifically:

  • Employment decisions. Do not use Real Press scores as the sole or primary basis for hiring, firing, promoting, disciplining, or evaluating an employee or candidate. If you use AI detection as part of an employment process, you must include meaningful human review by a qualified person.
  • Publishing and editorial decisions. Do not reject, suppress, or deprioritize content solely because of a Real Press score. Editors must apply independent judgment.
  • Credit, insurance, and financial decisions. Do not use Real Press scores to determine creditworthiness, insurance eligibility, or financial terms.
  • Legal proceedings. Real Press scores are not expert testimony, forensic evidence, or legal determinations. They should not be presented as such in any legal proceeding.
  • Content moderation at scale. Do not use Real Press API results to automatically remove, restrict, or penalize user-generated content without human review of each affected piece of content.
  • Academic integrity. Do not use Real Press scores as the sole basis for accusing a student or researcher of academic misconduct. Any academic integrity process must include human review and the opportunity for the accused to respond.

Any use of Real Press scores for the above purposes without meaningful human oversight is a violation of these terms and may result in immediate API access revocation and account termination.
